Board's Role in Technology Transformation

As Farm Credit System institutions accelerate technology transformation and adoption of artificial intelligence, Boards are being asked to oversee a rapidly evolving set of opportunities and risks. This timely session will explore the Board’s role in AI governance and oversight, including how AI is reshaping the organizational risk landscape, influencing strategic priorities, and changing the issues that warrant Board and committee attention. Participants will gain practical perspectives on the governance structures, management reporting, and Board-level questions that can help their institutions pursue the benefits of AI while appropriately managing its risks.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Recognize how AI adoption is changing the risk landscape and what those changes mean for Board and committee oversight, agendas, and allocation of time.
• Evaluate leading practices for Board oversight of AI strategy, governance, risk appetite, and management accountability.
• Identify the information and reporting Boards could expect from management to effectively oversee AI adoption, risk, investment, and business value.
• Understand approaches for monitoring an institution’s AI maturity over time, including adoption, realized benefits, return on investment, ongoing costs, and emerging risks.
