Session Description

What High Performing Boards do Differently: Lessons from the Boardroom

Wednesday, November 18, 2026

2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

What separates boards that create exceptional value from those that simply conduct meetings? Drawing on insights from high-performing boards across the Farm Credit System and beyond, this interactive session explores the habits, behaviors, and governance practices that distinguish the most effective boards. Participants will examine how leading boards focus on the future, ask better questions, strengthen boardroom dynamics, and create greater strategic impact—while identifying practical ideas they can bring back to their own boardroom.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. Identify the habits, behaviors, and governance practices that distinguish high-performing boards from those focused primarily on conducting board business.
  2. Examine how effective boards use forward-looking dialogue, thoughtful questioning, and strong boardroom dynamics to enhance governance and strategic impact.
  3. Apply practical approaches from high-performing boards to strengthen effectiveness, engagement, and strategic contribution within their own boardroom.
