In this session, Tom will discuss what a Government Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) is, what benefits it confers, and the significance of this status to the Farm Credit System. Tom provides a thorough overview of the intent and history of the GSE, how it is determined, and explains in practical terms the Farm Credit challenges, benefits, and implications of having GSE status. Policy implications of GSE status have become especially significant since the Financial Crisis, when the largest GSEs, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, went into government hands.
