Tom Halverson

Biography

Tom Halverson is President & Chief Executive Officer of CoBank, a $180 billion financial institution and one of the largest private providers of credit to the U.S. rural economy.

Halverson has more than 25 years of global experience in the financial services industry. He began his banking career with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which was founded to help former Soviet-bloc countries transition to free-market economies. He later spent more than 16 years with Goldman Sachs in a variety of executive positions in Europe, Asia and North America, including as Managing Director and Chief of Staff for the firm’s Goldman Sachs Bank USA subsidiary. Halverson joined CoBank in 2013 as Chief Banking Officer, with responsibility for all lending operations. He was appointed to the President & CEO of CoBank in January 2017.

Halverson serves on a number of boards of industry organizations. He is a director and former board chair for the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, which advocates on behalf of agricultural co-ops owned by farmers and ranchers throughout the United States. He is also a member of the board of the Federal Farm Credit Banks Funding Corporation and a board advisor for the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy.

Halverson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Wabash College and a doctorate degree in war studies from King’s College London.
