Session Descriptions

The Real Value of Sustainable Agriculture

Wednesday, August 28, 2024

9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Production practice choices of fertility removal, tillage, weed suppression, and cover cropping have historically been driven by the right agronomic and economic incentives to enhance bottom line production, and ultimately enhance long term asset values. Newly forming carbon markets and USDA Climate Smart investments are adding a layer of opportunity to incentivize the right agronomic, economic, and environmental outcomes. This session aims to navigate these evolving markets to help you better understand the core carbon concepts and discuss how these incentives may (or may not) impact land values.

Learner Outcomes:

1. Gain baseline understanding of Carbon Markets fundamentals.
2. Understand key drivers of the demand for carbon.
3. Contrast carbon asset production by industry (Nature Based Solutions: Crop / Livestock)
4. Consider the applicability of carbon markets to local real estate values.
