Thomas H. Stanton is a Fellow at Johns Hopkins University and a former President of the Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM). He served as a member of the board of the National Academy of Public Administration and recently was elected to the National Council of the American Society for Public Administration. He served almost five years in the federal Senior Executive Service and holds degrees from the University of California at Davis, Yale University, and the Harvard Law School.
Mr. Stanton’s publications include two books on government- sponsored enterprises (GSEs). Mr. Stanton wrote Why Some Firms Thrive While Others Fail: Governance and Management Lessons from the Crisis (Oxford University Press, 2012), based on his experience interviewing CEOs, risk officers, bankers, traders, regulators, and policymakers for the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. He also has co-edited two books on Enterprise Risk Management, including Public Sector Enterprise Risk Management: Advancing Beyond the Basics (Routledge, 2019).
