Skyrocketing hardware costs are hitting IT departments hard, impacting technology projects as well as budgets. Staples, a Passkey Partner, offers preferential pricing for large technology orders, combating the price increases that industry experts expect to continue through 2029.
For the remainder of the decade, Staples says businesses can expect to see continuing elevated costs for laptops, desktops and workstations with less pricing stability – some manufacturers are committing to prices for just weeks at a time. Businesses can also expect longer lead times on certain configurations.
“The AI boom is dramatically increasing demand for high-performance components, especially GPUs, advanced processors, and memory,” says Rebecca Kaberg, a Staples account executive focused on supporting Farm Credit customers. “Manufacturers are reallocating their capacity toward AI-optimized hardware, which reduces availability for traditional devices.”
More than just pricing, Staples Technology Services (STS) offers an integrated procurement and inventory management system. STS works with client IT teams to define specifications for all hardware needs, from laptops and printers to cameras and docking stations. STS helps forecast client needs for a designated time period and then purchases and securely warehouses the stock for delivery as needed.
“Staples Technology Solutions takes a programmatic, lifecycle approach that ensures businesses can maintain their technology supply chain at predictable prices with reliable delivery,” says Rebecca. “This supports technology refresh cycles that deliver security, efficiency and functionality.”
The STS team pre-configures all computers to client specifications, so they arrive ready to deploy, saving IT teams significant time and effort. Organizations can create a branded portal for employees to access the curated equipment. Each piece of hardware arrives labeled to enable asset tracking and control, and is delivered within two days to most of the U.S.
